Maybe you've heard of One Book, One Philadelphia. Or maybe your child has been encouraged to read a book over the summer that the whole school is reading. Or maybe you've been in a book club where everyone reads the same book each month. Well, we're jumping on the bandwagon and kicking off our own One Book, One Church program. I can't tell you which book has been selected just yet, you'll have to come to church on Sunday and find out, but I can tell you it's a good one, worth the read.
Our hope, in starting this new initiative, is to build community. We believe that having a good number of folks read the same book, engage in meaningful conversation, and enjoy fellowship together around the book that the church will be stronger. We believe that by participating in something together we might be able to better discern what God is calling us to do. We believe that by having thoughtful conversation about real issues that we'll be empowered to work for God's justice and pray, "thy will be done."
So I hope you'll come to church on Sunday with $10 in hand ready to buy the book. I hope you'll read it (it's not that long) and enjoy it. I hope you'll join us in the new year for all sorts of morning and evening programs that will allow us to explore the book and our faith more deeply.
One Book, One Church...isn't it great when God invites us to all be on the same page?
