Lent, Day 9

I've been on a big Brene Brown kick for a while now, and came across this quote by her this week that seems to also fit with Lent.

During this season, we spend some time talking about suffering, both the suffering of Christ on the cross as well as the ways we suffer as humans.  It's not an easy or fun topic for sure, but one that is real and true.  I like this quote so much because it affirms the presence of God in the midst of the real and true suffering.  Being a follower of Christ doesn't mean that we can avoid suffering.  We aren't promised that if we have enough faith God will keep bad things from happening.  But no matter where we find ourselves, this Lenten day or any day, we trust that God is with us in the midst of our pain or fear or suffering.  God understands suffering, Christ knows real suffering, and as people of faith we believe, affirm, and trust that they will be with us whenever we experience suffering as well.
