Welcome to the Front Page, the digital cover of the Wayne Press.  Here we will share with you things that can't be captured in our newsletter--videos, music, color photographs--as well as articles that reflect on faith and life.

Lent 4.8

Today is Satruday, traditionally the day of Sabbath for Jewish people.  Practicing the Sabbath is a commandment for us as Christians as well, although it tends to be one we often neglect or ignore.  Sabbath was designed for us by God.  We are called to rest, called to remember who we are and who God is, and called to practice noticing the presence and power of God.  Walter Brueggemann wrote an awesome book on Sabbath and says this,

"YHWH is a Sabbath-keeping God, which fact ensures that restfulness and not restlessness is at the center of life."

The world tells us that restlessness, busyness, constant activity and movement and to do lists is center and meaning of life, but God says differently.  God says that dwelling in God, abiding in God's presence is the center of life.

Whether you can practice that for 10 minutes today or all day someday soon, it is God's desire.  It is also God's commandment.
