Welcome to the Front Page, the digital cover of the Wayne Press.  Here we will share with you things that can't be captured in our newsletter--videos, music, color photographs--as well as articles that reflect on faith and life.

Identity Crisis

I have been in youth ministry now for the better part of a decade now, and one of the things that has been obvious to me is every youth’s struggle to find their identity.  They are all searching for meaning and purpose in their life that will help define why they are here.  Each person does this in differnet ways.  Sometimes this plays out in throwing themselves into their school work or sport, and sometimes is plays out in throwing themselves to boys or girls at parties.

I think that most adults feel like they have passed this stage where they engage in different activities and relationships to find meaning in their lives.  We are supposed to be sure of ourselves, and past those juvenile searches for acceptance.  I wonder though if most of us have just gotten better at hiding our insecurities about ourselves.  In looking at my life, I feel no less pressure now than I did when I was in high school to look, act and be a certain way.  Everywhere we turn we have people directly, or indirectly telling us that ‘you will really be something if you accomplish this, or have that.’  Why is it so easy to fall prey to these voices?  Is it true that we are all not quite good enough?

Psalm 139:13-14a says, “For it was you [God] who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”  When I read Scripture, I hear a totally different message from God than what I see in the world.  Despite our flaws, we have been chosen by God.  God values us so much that God was willing to enter earth in our form, in the person of Jesus, so that He could live and die for us.  When I look at the cross, I see just how much God cherishes me and all of us.

I found this great lesson online that outlines a series of verses that describes what God believes about us.  Take time and look up these 20 or so verses yourself, and rediscover who you really are.  identity devotional

As a final blessing, I want to finish this blog with a short youtube video that I think sums up everything I have been thinking and feeling.  May you be blessed as you watch it, read Scripture, and ponder who it is God created you to be.
