Why I am excited about “The Common Place”…

Next week, our church will take a vote that could have a major impact on our life together as a community of faith. On September 22nd after the 9:30am service, we will vote to purchase New Spirit Community Presbyterian Church with the intentions of converting it into a multi-use facility for worship and education to better serve children, youth, and families in southwest. We have named it, “The Common Place” and the tag line goes something like this: “…A sacred place to do life together. A... Read More

God, the Creator--Confirmation for the Rest of Us

Each week, I'll post another audio lecture in the Confirmation for the Rest of Us series.  Last week, we began with Steve Boyer, professor of theology at Eastern University, and his introduction to the Trinity.  This week, we move to the First Person of the Trinity, the one we have traditionally called Father or Creator.  In this first lecture (which includes part two next week--or here if you prefer), Dr. Martha Moore-Keish of Columbia Theological Seminary introduces us to... I've been thinking

…about PRAYER.  It started as an everyday, run-of-the-mill resource review.  I was previewing a curriculum for children’s ministry entitled “Praying in COLOR ~Kids’ Edition” by Sybil MacBeth.  I was drawn to the concept of colorful prayer out of a renewed desire for children to know, experience and express themselves to God in creative and multi-dimensional ways.  “Praying in COLOR” seemed to hit the mark at several levels.    Imagine my surprise.  There I... Online Academy: Confirmation for the Rest of Us

Laurie and I hatched a plan six months ago to develop a number of online courses for the good people of Wayne Presbyterian church who were unable to attend traditional Sunday morning Adult Education.  For some of you, it's because you're teaching our children at the same hour.  For some, it's because you don't drive anymore and must rely on someone else to bring you.  For some, it's because you travel so often that a four-week course always turned into an incoherent two-week...
