WOMEN IN THE WORD The Women's Programs for Bible Study and Fellowship will begin on Wednesday, September 22 (except WBW which will begin on Wednesday, September 15). Come join together with other women as we seek to understand God's Word to us as it is revealed through Scripture. Through a supportive and welcoming atmosphere, we join together to study the Bible and develop our relationship with Jesus Christ. No matter what amount of study you have or haven't done, there is class offering for you! Listed here is a brief description of the studies offered throughout the day and evening, all with childcare available. Further information can be obtained from the Wayne Presbyterian Church website or the Women's Bible Study brochure found on the Information Table in the Connector. We hope to see you in one of these classes! Contact Kathie McShea at 610-688-1283, or if you have any questions.
WORD BEFORE WORK 6:45 TO 8:15 a.m. Begins Wednesday, September 15
KNOWING CHRIST: THE "I AM" SAYINGS OF JESUS Throughout the public ministry of Jesus, as recorded in the New Testament, many opinions arose about who exactly this man from Nazareth was. We see this most clearly in the conversation between Jesus and his disciples in Mark 8:27-30, when he asks them, "Who do PEOPLE say that I am?" and "Who do YOU say that I am?" The apostle Peter answers, "You are the Messiah." What did that mean to Jewish and gentile believers in the early church? What does it mean to us today? How are we to respond personally to this teaching, and how is the church to respond? How does this teaching affect our individual study of the Bible, our prayer and our worship? How does it impact us collectively, in service to the family of faith or outreach to the community, the country and the world?
We will look back into Old Testament scripture to understand expectations of the Messiah from Israel's faith traditions, look at what the 12 New Testament disciples understood, and look at Jesus' own understanding of who he was through the "I Am" statements recorded in the Gospel of John.
In September, Word Before Work will meet on the 15th and the 29th. Beginning in October, we will meet in the Fireside Room on the SECOND and FOURTH Wednesdays of every month. Our time includes a light breakfast, Bible study, prayer support and fellowship. Discussions are facilitated by Rev. Dr. Anne Clark Duncan.
MORNING BIBLE STUDIES - 9:45 TO 11:15 a.m. Begins on Wed. Sept 22! Morning classes will meet in the Chapel from 9:15 - 9:30 a.m. for fellowship and coffee followed by a short time of announcements and music.
THE GOSPEL OF JOHN While the other three Gospels were written to tell the story of Jesus' life, the Gospel of John focuses on the deepest spiritual and theological teachings of Jesus. Come join us to learn about Jesus from John's totally unique perspective through His famous discourses that are important to a clear understanding of His mission on earth. You will be immeasurably touched by the powerful and moving theme of love that resonates throughout this Gospel. Hopefully, as we hear Jesus telling us to "love one another as I have loved you," we will feel the call to follow His example to love others sacrificially and shed abroad His light to a dark world.
This Bible study will meet weekly, studying and discussing John's teachings using The Life Change Series: An Encounter with God's Word from the book of John. We will meet as a large group and then break into smaller discussion groups for more intimate and in-depth study. Leaders: Dory Hoxie, Angela Tait and Kathie McShea
FOLLOWING CHRIST IN SERVICE
"Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. He who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer that forgets, but a doer that acts, he shall be blessing in his doing." (James 1:22,25)
While many serve or volunteer individually, we seek to serve as the body of Christ, in community, utilizing gifts, challenging, encouraging, and supporting one another. Women in groups of 3-4 will serve at a WPC mission site every other week for a year, undergirded in prayer. Outreach sites are partially determined by interests of group members. This outreach enables us to learn more about the neighbors Christ has commanded us to love, to serve in His name, and to grow more deeply in our knowledge of God and ourselves.
All serving groups meet together approximately twice a month for Bible study, prayer and fellowship. The group will use When Life and Beliefs Collide: How Knowing God Makes a Difference by Carolyn Custis James. Leaders: Betsy Boston and Sue Connor
BECOMING A WOMAN OF SIMPLICITY "I am Woman. I am Invincible. I am Tired." Does this describe you? Do you long to live your life more simply? In a culture that pulls women in multiple directions at once, we will search for ways to de-clutter the calendar, reduce energy-draining distractions and exchange some of those urgencies for what is truly important. We will examine simplicity and its source. All this will be addressed in the light of Scripture.
Join us the first and third Wednesdays each month to discover how God wants you to know His perfect peace. This study is open to all women who yearn for a peaceful spirit and a life of simplicity. No prior Bible study experience needed. Leaders: Carol Diehl and Linda Teets

In Memory of George Haverly
He goes free of the earth. The sun of his last day sets clear in the sweetness of his liberty.
The earth recovers from his dying, the hallow of his life remaining in all his death leaves.
He is hidden among all that is, and cannot be lost.
-Wendell Berry
Can We Pique Your Interest in Adult Education?
Record
numbers registered for adult education classes on Sunday and Monday
mornings tell us two things: we want, as a church
family, to grow in our faith and in our understanding of the ways in
which God's word impacts our lives; and the teachers and course
offerings the Adult Education Committee lined up are to your liking!
Presbyterian Women
Presbyterian Women reach out in mission, foster fellowship, and encourage spiritual growth through Bible studies, half-day retreats and quarterly breakfast fellowship.
Presbyterian Women hold an annual Christmas
Marketplace and annual "Second Time Around" sale which raise more than
$15,000 for various mission causes. They also support the "Least Coin"
collection, have an active Needlecrafter group which produces many
items for area Presbyterian homes, and work with these homes for the
elderly in other volunteer capacities. These mission activities have
the active participation of approximately 175 women.
Fellowship
Presbyterian
Women hold several programs throughout the year which attract a good
number of women. These usually have an informational or inspirational
speaker. Five circles, including a Mother's Enrichment group for moms
of young children, enrich the women's program. The circles involve
approximately 70 women of the church and offer fellowship,
opportunities for service, and some Bible study.
Fellowship Opportunities Throughout The Year
The
Fellowship Committee of the church designs programs and activities to
bring people together in Christ's love. Many events through the year
are planned with the express purpose of fostering fellowship and
dialogue. Here are some annual favorites: the All Church Picnic at Fenimore Park, the Ladies Christmas Tea, the Chili
Supper which precedes our annual meeting each year. In addition,
special events are planned throughout the year to include movie nights,
new member dinners, and more..
If you have ideas for fellowship
activities, contact the Fellowship Committee through Anne Clark Duncan
in the church office at 610-688-8700, x221,
We would love to meet you and incorporate your ideas. It's fun, it's exciting, it's Fellowship!
Introducing ...
Presbyterian Women are going through a metamorphosis with
their name! Beginning in June 2010, this group, which includes all
female members of Wayne Presbyterian Church, will be known as WinGS ... Women in God's Service. We wanted a name that said a little bit about what we do and also
indicated the fact that we are an active body who are engaged in
serving God in many different ways. You will begin to see our new logo
over the summer months ... look for the butterfly, a symbol of
Christian resurrection. It reminds us of how God takes each one of us
and transforms us from our old nature, turning us into women who are
new creations; forgiven, alive and free to serve God. "Anyone who
belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and
everything is new." -II Cor. 5:17 CEV. We hope that all women of the
church will take advantage of the many ways they can be involved in WinGS.
