As our church continues to grow, the needs of our congregation and our community seem to grow even faster. The duty of an ordained deacon is "to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith."

The Board of Deacons leads and facilitates its ministries with a membership of 36 deacons. The board organizes its work into 3 committees and 12 subcommittees, but the work of each subcommittee can be done by anyone in the congregation who feels a connection to the work of that subcommittee.

The three committees are:

• Community Service which includes Bloodmobile; Community Outreach efforts (Christmas Angel Tree, Easter Food Baskets and the School Supply Drive), and Job Counseling.

• Congregational Service which handles Audio Recording (taping and distribution of sermons), the Disability Task Force; Memorial Service Receptions; and Transportation.

• Care and Compassion which includes Transition Support (meals, child-care, and transportation during personal crisis), Parish Visitation (to those who are homebound and in nursing homes), and the Prayer and Praise Chain.
