According to The Chorus Impact Study recently completed by ChorusAmerica.org, choral singing is the most popular medium of participation in the performing arts. The study reports that adults who sing in choirs are better citizens and are more likely to volunteer time and money to philanthropic causes. Children who sing in choirs do better academically, have a healthier sense of team, and develop superior social skills. Educators from a broad spectrum of disciplines are emphatic about the positive role choirs play in their students lives. Including ten million children, 42.6 million Americans sing in 270,000 choirs nationwide. This includes 41,000 K-12 school choruses, 12,000 professional and community choirs, and 216,000 religious choirs. In spite of the apparent benefits, there has been a decline in the number of choirs for children and youth, and one in five parents report that there are no choir opportunities for their children in their community. We hope you will consider singing in and joining a choir at Wayne Presbyterian Church this fall.

70 Wayne singers from Wayne will join forces with singers from the churches of the Presbytery of Philadelphia to form a choir of over 500, "One Joyful Choir," performing in concert at the Kimmel Center November 13 conducted by Pearl Shangkuan (Calvin College, Grand Rapids). The concert includes a commissioned work by John Ferguson (St. Olaf College) and intervening texts by Martin Marty, both of whom will participate in the actual concert. Our Ministers of Music, Jeff Fowler and Tim Evers, are organizing and preparing the choir for this event.

Tickets are necessary and will be available through the Kimmel Center box office after September 15.
