Opportunities to help Unemployed in Southwest Philadelphia. With unemployment at historically high levels, CityLights provided funding for a part-time Job Counselor at the Southwest Community Development Corporation (SWCDC). A highly dedicated Job Counselor was hired in November 2009. Currently, he is working with approximately 40 unemployed residents of Southwest Philadelphia. Some of those who are looking for jobs have committed minor crimes, some do not have a high school degree, some are finishing their GED, and some have attended community colleges. These individuals are seeking jobs in the following areas: construction, housekeeping, nursing, social work, general labor, retail, and home health care. They are hoping to find jobs in Philadelphia, as most do not have reliable cars and public transportation to suburban areas is difficult and expensive. How can you help?

Provide Contacts - names of any potential employers that may be helpful in identifying or providing employment opportunities.

Financial Support - funding for the Job Counselor position ends in March 2010.

Administrative Assistance - help with paperwork, online job searches, e-mails and general administrative tasks involved in looking for a job. Flexible hours: Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
