Women of the Church ... An Invitation to Breakfast!
FOOD FOR THE BODY AND SOUL
"Refreshing Hope"
Saturday, March 20 in the Chapel
8:30 - 10:00 am

Speaker: Dorcas Thompson

Please consider joining us for this popular event which delivers good food, great fellowship and an inspirational message. Dorcas Thompson will be speaking on the topic "Refreshing Hope." A native of the Boston area, Dorcas has been a public school teacher, a school librarian and tutor. She has ministered in a multitude of areas within the church through the years as a pastor's wife and woman of God; roles which included being a conference speaker, retreat leader, counselor and teacher. Together with her husband, Bill, she has authored several books on history for young people. Also a mother, Dorcas finds great joy in her daughter, son in-law and three almost perfect grandchildren!

Raised in a dedicated Christian family, Dorcas was nurtured in the Scriptures from earliest childhood. On her life's journey, she has encountered several significant challenges where hope has been an integral part of her experience. She is happy to be able to share from God's word her understanding of Refreshing Hope and the powerful effect it has on our daily living.

Our mission outreach for this spring morning will combine two of Dorcas' loves: children and books. Please bring children's reading books with you to share with several of our Wayne Presbyterian Church mission partners. These books may be fiction, nonfiction, or biographical and appropriate for children ages pre-school to 5th grade. Books with multi-racial characters are particularly appreciated. Please join us ... you'll be delighted you did!

RSVP to the church office at 610-688-8700. Childcare will be provided upon request.

Women / Wednesday / The Word

Wednesday continues to be a day when women of the church and community gather to share fellowship and the study of the Bible. If you have never considered joining one of our classes, please feel free to jump in now and see what it is all about. There are studies meeting at four different times throughout the day: 6:45 a.m. - Word Before Work; 9:30 a.m. - 5 different classes from which to choose; 12 Noon - Lunch Hour Class; 7 p.m. - Evening Study. No matter what your Bible study experience, there is a class for you. Please come! If you have any questions, please call Linda Teets at 610-688-5230. Of special interest in February, a new weekly class beginning on February 10 at 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. taught by Angela Tait. Here is a brief description of A Study of Angels:

Messengers, guardians, warriors, demons ... in the unseen realms, powerful beings dwell. They move at the speed of light to carry out their master's will. These fantastic beings are called Angels.

Many Christians are misinformed about angels. Most of the resources claiming to tell us the truth about angels have explored every avenue EXCEPT the genuine source of truth - God's Word. Thirty-four of the Sixty-six books of the Bible talk about angels in detail. Every New Testament writer confirms their existence. Jesus, himself, attested to the role angels play in every realm of human activity.

In this study, we will explore what the Bible defines as the two distinct groups of angels - the holy angels of God and the evil angels who followed Satan into rebellion. We will discover their natures, characteristics, ministries and the roles angels play in our lives and in the life of the Church.

If time permits, we will also see how other religions view angels. Finally, we will investigate New Age thinking on angel guides.

Information on the other course offerings can be found in the Women's Bible Study brochure in the Connector or on the Wayne Presbyterian Church website under Adult Ministries. New classmates are always welcome!

Can We Pique Your Interest in
Adult Education?

Record numbers registered for adult education classes on Sunday and Monday mornings this past spring tell us two things: we want, as a church family, to grow in our faith and in our understanding of the ways in which God's word impacts our lives; and the teachers and course offerings the Adult Education Committee lined up are to your liking!

Mission

Presbyterian Women hold an annual Christmas Marketplace and annual "Second Time Around" sale which raise more than $15,000 for various mission causes. They also support the "Least Coin" collection, have an active Needlecrafter group which produces many items for area Presbyterian homes, and work with these homes for the elderly in other volunteer capacities. These mission activities have the active participation of approximately 175 women.

Fellowship

Presbyterian Women hold several programs throughout the year which attract a good number of women. These usually have an informational or inspirational speaker. Five circles, including a Mother's Enrichment group for moms of young children, enrich the women's program. The circles involve approximately 70 women of the church and offer fellowship, opportunities for service, and some Bible study.

Fellowship Opportunities Throughout The Year

The Fellowship Committee of the church designs programs and activities to bring people together in Christ's love. Many events through the year are planned with the express purpose of fostering fellowship and dialogue. Here are some annual favorites: the All Church Picnic at Valley Forge National Park in June, the Ladies Christmas Tea, the Chili Supper which precedes our annual meeting each year. In addition, special events are planned throughout the year to include movie nights, new member dinners, and more..

If you have ideas for fellowship activities, contact the Fellowship Committee through Anne Clark Duncan in the church office at 610-688-8700, x221,

We would love to meet you and incorporate your ideas.
It's fun, it's exciting, it's Fellowship!
