Youth Ministries

The Youth Programs at Wayne Presbyterian Church involve youth from both Middle School and High School. These programs are led by Laurie Taylor Weicher and Andrew Hostetter.

A typical week of youth programs include Sunday school, Sunday evening youth group (ROCK & DOOR), small group activities, and rehearsals for the youth choir, and youth worship team (PTL). Throughout the school year, the weekends are frequently filled with retreats, lock-ins, concerts, and service days. The summer is always packed with a variety of mission trips, conferences, and other fun activities for the youth.

Each Sunday from 6 - 8 p.m. ROCK & DOOR (our middle and high school youth groups) meet. During a normal month we'll have the opportunity for worship, games, service opportunities, Bible Study and discussion. Dinner is provided and a typical Sunday night concludes with worship. Regular ROCK & DOOR meet from September to May.

Sunday School for Middle and High School youth is held every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. during the school year. Middle School youth meet in Rooms 208/209 and the high school group meets at Cream and Sugar Coffee Shop on Lancaster Avenue at 9:30 a.m. During the summer youth are encouraged to worship with their families. Confirmation occurs each year from January to May. Students in 8th grade or older who have not yet done confirmation are invited to participate in the confirmation process.

The Westminster Choir, directed by Tim Evers, is our youth choir, which rehearses Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. and leads morning worship in coordination with the Chancel Choir. Tim also directs PTL (Praise the Lord) a youth praise team that leads closing services at Sunday evening youth groups. Both ensembles are open to 6th - 12th graders of all levels of experience and rehearse and lead worship from September through May.

Each summer the youth participate in mission trips. Last summer the high school youth participated in the Appalachia Service Project in W.V. and the middle school youth went to D.C. to participate in a variety of urban mission projects. In 2010 our middle school youth will serve at Broad Street Ministry in Philadelphia from June 27 - July 1. The location for the high school trip has not yet been decided but will most likely be the week of July 11 - 17. All high schoolers are also encouraged to attend the Montreat Youth Conference from August 1 - 7, 2010. It's a week in N.C. spent worshipping, hiking, eating ice cream, and generally having the most fun you'll have all summer.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

This was a great opportunity to serve others and bear witness to the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr.  We met at church on the morning of Monday, January 18, 2010 and headed into the city to work with some of our mission partners. Event photos: Click Here
