Greetings in Christ!

New Member Orientation

Rev. Anne Clark Duncan, Elders Susan Starke and Diana Bacci, and Deacon Daniel Ward give leadership to our New Member Orientation which meets every other month for three and a half hours from 12 noon - 3:30 pm. New members are accepted at the end of the class. We also hold classes which consist of three classes offered the first three Sundays of every month at 9:30 am in the Fireside Room. We know that your schedule may not permit you to attend all three in a given month. We want to work with you, so if you start the orientation in one month, but are not able to finish it until the following or a later month, that's OK with us.

On the third Sunday of each month at 9:30 am, new members are accepted into membership by the Session (that's the Presbyterian name for our governing body in the congregation). Then these new members are introduced in the 11 am service that day. Call Anne Clark Duncan at 610-688-8700 to find out more about the orientation. Child care is available through the Nursery and the 9:30 a.m. children's Sunday School program.

Contact us about our next new members' class. This class is primarily intended for those who have been worshiping at Wayne Presbyterian for a year or more, or those transferring an active memberships from other Presbyterian or Reformed churches. Please call Rev. Anne Clark Duncan (x221) to register, or email:  . Childcare is available; please request it when you call with your reservation for the class.

We invite you to consider uniting with this fellowship; there's a place for you in this community of faith here in Wayne!

Frequently Asked Questions about Membership

Q: What does it mean to be a member of this church?

Church membership is to be taken seriously. The Book of Order, which is part of the Presbyterian Church constitution, lists the following duties of members:

*proclaiming the good news,

*taking part in the common life and worship of a particular church,

*praying and studying Scripture and the faith of the Christian Church,

*supporting the work of the church through the giving of money, time, and talents,

*participating in the governing responsibilities of the church,

*demonstrating a new quality of life within and through the church,

*responding to God's activity in the world through service to others,

*living responsibly in the personal, family, vocational, political, cultural, and social relationships of life,

*working in the world for peace, justice, freedom, and human fulfillment.

Through the fellowship of Wayne Presbyterian Church, we support each other in living up to these obligations as individuals and as a congregation.

Q: How do I make a request to become a member?

During the New Member Orientation, our staff and elders will assist you in making application to the Session.

Baptism and a public profession of faith in Jesus as Lord are the visible signs of entrance into the active membership of the church.

Profession of Faith

If you have not been baptized, we will ask you to make public your profession of faith and receive baptism. If you were baptized at an early age, but have not publicly professed your faith in Jesus Christ, we will ask you to do so during the worship service when we introduce you to the congregation.

Reaffirmation of Faith

Persons who have previously made a profession of faith, but have not been active recently in a church, or unable to transfer membership from another Protestant denomination, may join by reaffirmation of faith.

Letter of Transfer

Persons who have made a profession of faith and have been received into membership in a Presbyterian church or other Protestant denomination may be received by the Session upon receipt of a certificate of transfer from the church in which you were most recently a member. Our church office will make this request from your previous church on your behalf.
