 Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC)

July / August 2010

The PNC is making very strong progress as it focuses on serious, qualified candidates and conducts thoughtful interviews. We are hopeful and enthusiastic about the direction in which we are going. As we continue to meet weekly throughout the summer, we earnestly seek your steadfast prayer support and encouragement.

June 2010

The Pastor Nominating Committee continues to meet faithfully each week to evaluate Personal Information Forms and listen to sermons. In addition, the committee has also begun to schedule phone interviews with promising candidates. Our mood is upbeat as we regularly receive applications from qualified candidates. We ask that you continue to pray for us steadfastly as God moves us ever closer to His choice for our church. As always, we thank you for your patience and understanding.

May 2010

At this point in time, the PNC continues to review PIFs (personal information forms) of candidates. We welcome referrals from the congregation and encourage the submission of additional applications. We can not be discouraged because we know that a sovereign God is in control of this process and will provide our church with the appropriate candidate. As the PNC continues to work diligently, we appreciate your patience and your steadfast prayers.

March 2010

The PNC is continuing to meet on a regular basis and is spendingconsiderable time reviewing the credentials and backgrounds of serious candidates as well as interviewing them. Though no final decisions have been made, there is good progress toward the goal of finding the best possible candidate to lead Wayne Presbyterian Church in the coming years. The committee asks for your continued patience with the process as well as your prayers that God's choice to fill this position will be made absolutely clear to us all. Thank you for your faithful and steadfast support.

January 2010

As the PNC continues its search for a new pastor, it has been conducting phone interviews with highly favored candidates. In addition, the committee has been interviewing the references given by top candidates and has been traveling to churches to hear sermons and meet personally with those individuals under serious consideration. Though progress is being made, we would still greatly appreciate it if you would continue to keep the PNC in your prayers. Please visit this website for the most recent PNC updates.

December 2009

In an effort to give the congregation a clear understanding of the process involved in choosing a new pastor, here is a chronological account of the events leading up to the final selection. As you may recall, John Galloway officially resigned in December, 2007 after which a search began for an interim pastor. Ron Fritts was chosen for this position and installed as interim in April, 2008. In June, 2008, Ron Fritts assembled a committee to prepare the church mission study. Shortly thereafter, in July, 2008, the church mission study committee began meeting in order to write a questionnaire and conduct small group sessions with the congregation. In November, 2008, the committee completed the survey of the congregation and submitted its report to Session for approval. In the winter of 2009, the nominating committee solicited nominations for the PNC from the congregation. The PNC was elected by the congregation in March, 2009, and began its training by the Presbytery in April, 2009. The PNC spent the spring of 2009 writing the Church Information Form which was approved by the Session and Presbytery in July, 2009. At that point in time the PNC began receiving Personal Information Forms from prospective candidates and began to review them right away. In addition to reading PIFs, the PNC has spent a great deal of time reading and listening to sermons in an effort to focus on the top candidates. More recently, the PNC has been conducting phone interviews with leading candidates. As the process continues, the committee is progressively narrowing the list of potential candidates in order to select the individual who is the best fit for our church. We sincerely request your patience and prayer support as we proceed with this difficult and important task. We all share the same conviction that ultimately God will lead us to the man or woman of His choice for Wayne Presbyterian Church.PNC?Update

November 2009

The PNC is still reviewing new Personal Information Forms (PIFs) from prospective candidates as well as reading and listening to sermons. In addition, it is conducting phone interviews with high ranking candidates in whom it has a serious interest. The committee is still prepared to receive any referrals you or anyone you know in the ministry may have. The selection process is long and arduous, but the PNC is totally committed to spending the time and effort necessary for a successful outcome. We greatly appreciate and need your faithful prayer support.

October 2009

The PNC has been spending much time recently listening to and viewing sermons of prospective candidates online. In addition, 90 Personal Information Forms have been reviewed and the committee is beginning to narrow the field to those candidates in whom it has the most genuine interest. The committee is focusing great attention on candidates' education, experience, leadership qualities, theological perspectives and most especially preaching ability. As the process moves forward, progress is definitely being made.

September 2009

The PNC continues to meet weekly to review the numerous Personal Information Forms (70 to date) that are coming in from a wide variety of candidates with diverse backgrounds. In addition to reading thoroughly through these forms, the committee is devoting a considerable amount of time to reading and listening to sermons. The screening process is being carried out methodically with great care and attention to detail in order to find the candidate who is truly the best fit for Wayne Presbyterian Church. An advertisement has also been placed with Presbyterian Outlook which can be found in their September 14, 2009 issue.

March - August 2009

On March 15, 2009, Wayne Presbyterian Church elected the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC). The PNC's purpose is to find the person that God is calling to lead our congregation as Pastor/Head of Staff.

In preparation, the PNC had a formal training session with representatives from the Presbytery of Philadelphia on April 25, the purpose of which was to give detailed instruction regarding the entire process of nominating a new pastor. After the training, the PNC met diligently to complete the first step of the process: the writing of the Church Information Form (CIF). The CIF provides potential candidates with a description of our church's programs, congregation and beliefs, as well as a description of the job and pastor qualities/skills we seek. Our CIF was approved by Session on June 16, and by the Presbytery's Committee On Ministry (COM) on July 2.

Once completed and approved, the CIF was then posted on the PC(USA) website: www.pcusa.org. Since the CIF has been posted, the PNC has met weekly to review Personal Information Forms (PIF) received from interested candidates. In addition, the PNC has followed up on personal referrals, as well as listened to sermons from candidates of interest.
